Election of the CENTEC President for the period 2025-2028 20-11-2024 in CENTEC
The election process of the President of the Centre for Marine Technology and Ocean Engineering (CENTEC) for the term 2025-2028 took place between November 11 and 13, 2024. Prof. Yordan Garbatov, the current President of CENTEC, was re-elected for the next 4-year period.
International Ship and Offshore Structures (ISSC) 28-10-2024 in CENTEC-IST
Prof. Yordan Garbatov was elected president of the International Congress of Ships and Offshore Structures (ISSC), and Prof. Ângelo Teixeira, as general secretary for the 2025-2028 term.
The ISSC Congress is held every three years and is the most prestigious event in the field of naval and offshore structures, bringing together the world's greatest experts, who are part of 16 technical committees. During each term, state-of-the-art assessment reports are prepared in the various domains, which are subsequently submitted for discussion during Congress. The objectives of the ISSC include promoting international collaboration, suggesting design procedures and criteria, discussing ongoing studies, and simplifying the evaluation and dissemination of results from recent studies. ISSC encompasses ships and other vessels used for transportation, exploration of oceanic and underwater resources. The next Congress will take place in Lisbon between 4th and 8th September, 2028
COST Action CA23159: Decarbonising Waterborne Transportation (DeWaTra) 18-10-2024 in CENTEC - IST
The 1st meeting of the 4-year COST Action was in Brussels on 17th of October. The Chair is Prof Carlos Guedes Soares from CENTEC, and the Vice-Chair is Dr Oleksii Ivashenko from Det Norske Veritas.
DeWaTra addresses the challenges of achieving a higher level of sustainability in shipping by reducing CO2 emissions, improving energy efficiency, and ensuring compliance with international regulations. This initiative sets clear and ambitious goals, such as developing numerical models, assessing the performance of technology solutions, fostering capacity-building, and suggesting transport policy measures to promote sustainable maritime practices.

MARITIME Final Conference (10th April 2024) 20-04-2024 in IST-CENTEC
The final conference of the MARITIME project took place on April, 10th, 2024 at IST Congress Centre in Lisbon.
The programme focused on the outcomes of the courses and field trips as well on the feedback and evaluations of the students. The conference had the presence of the z, Vice-Director General for Maritime Policy that presented the Programme Operator and the objective of the EEA Grants. At the end, a round-table took place with stakeholders from the maritime sector to discuss the importance of Human factors in the Maritime Safety.
