Sutulo, S. and Guedes Soares, C. (2006), "Development of a Multi-Factor Regression Model Based on Optimized Captive-Model Tests", Journal of Ship Research, Vol. 50, Issue 4, pp. 311-333
A series of manoeuvring captivemodel tests were carried out according to a specially designed optimised plan. The model represented a 46.25 m rivergoing fast catamaran at 1:10 scale. The drift angle, yaw rate amplitude, sinkage, pitch and heel angles were being varied in course of the combined swayyaw tests. All the six force and moment components were measured and recorded. The following leastsquare regression analysis combined with the analysis of variance and outliers detection and elimination resulted in multivariate polynomial regressions for the force and moment coefficients which can be used for description of the hull hydrodynamic forces in manoeuvring simulation codes.
