Group of Marine Environment The objectives of the Marine Environment Group are to study the aspects of the marine environment that are important for the engineering activities at sea. Therefore the physical descriptions of the environmental processes that develop in the atmosphere and ocean are of concern of this group. The main emphasis has been given to mathematical and physical modelling of waves, currents and wind, with more emphasis placed on the study of waves. Both deterministic and probabilistic models are considered, as they complement each other in describing the physical phenomena. Despite having important interfaces with physical oceanography that aims at understanding the phenomena, the objectives of the group are more centred in the development of models and tools that can be applied in engineering.
