Advanced Studies Diploma in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering

Advanced Studies Diploma (ASD) in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering is a 3rd cycle diploma of tertiary studies that attests the level of broad and sound scientific-based level of knowledge required for carrying out fundamental or applied research that may constitute a Phd work.

The DEAEN consists of advanced curricular units (UC’s) that guarantee a level of knowledge and extended and solid scientific basis ensuring the preparation of students for the development of his doctoral thesis.

The course leading to the Advanced Studies Diploma in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering has a duration of one academic year and consists of a set of course units with a total of 30 credits ECTS.

Upon completion of the course leading to the Diploma of Advanced Studies in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering applicants may apply for the PhD program completing the research part leading to the doctoral thesis

The scientific-based course units are mainly ranked as D course units. However also F and M course units can be selected according to the regulations of the 3rd cycle diplomas of tertiary studies awarded by IST.

After concluding the course leading to the Advanced Studies Diploma in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering, the ones interested may follow to the Doctoral Programme, complementing the curricular component with research work leading to the PhD thesis.

By separating the curricular component from the research work leading to the PhD thesis, an Advanced Studies Diploma can be conferred to students that have demonstrated a high level of knowledge in the scientific field of study but do not intend to obtain a PhD degree.
