Lopes, P., Ciortan, C. and Guedes Soares, C. (2008), “Computational study on the influence of the camber of a main sail in upwind condition”, Maritime Industry, Ocean Engineering and Coastal Resources, Guedes Soares, C. e Kolev, P. (Eds.), Taylor & Francis Group, London, UK, pp. 1017-1022

Airflow around a yacht main sail with imposed final geometry is simulated using CFD code, using initial data collected from a Velocity Prediction Program (VPP). Three different sail geometries were tested (using three different NACA Mean Line Profiles). The grid is structured-like next to the sails and unstructured in the rest of the domain. The turbulence model used is Shear Stress Transport. The influence of the camber of the on the performance of the sail is assessed.
