Wave predictions based on simulations with the spectral phase averaging model SWAN have been carried out to study the coastal environment at the entrance of the Leixões harbor, in the northern part of the Portuguese continental coast. As a first step, the spatial distribution of the wave field was analyzed considering some relevant patterns for the wave conditions. Secondly, based on some buoy measurements, validations of the model results have been also carried out.
