This study considers the effects that dimple imperfections, i.e. imperfections caused by local accidents can cause on the ability of a plate assembly to resist compressive loads. Several different parameters for the plate were used, so that a relationship between these and the effect of the dimple imperfection. One such parameter was the position of the dimple imperfection on the plate. The study was based on finite element calculations. The results obtained were compared with the ones for the same panels without the dimple imperfections. It was found that the effect of the dimple imperfection is higher when positioned near the unloaded edge of the plate. It was also found that the effect on the collapse strength of this type of imperfection depends upon its amplitude and on the slenderness of the plate.
