A study of the turbulent flow for the well-documented case of the 2 D backward facing step is performed using two codes: one using a Slightly Compressible Flow formulation, and Ansys CFX. The compressible flow code uses centered finite differences on structured grids and is marched in time using the Beam and Warming implicit scheme. The simulations performed with Ansys CFX are carried on unstructured grids. Several turbulence models are used and their efficiency is assessed. The flow conditions are the ones for which experimental data exist. The numerical results are compared against the experimental ones.
