Cherneva, Z., Guedes Soares, C. and Antão, E.M. (2006), “Some Characteristics of the Largest Waves in the North Sea", Proceedings of the 8th International Conference on Marine Sciences and Technologies (BlackSea´06), 25-27 September, Varna, Bulgaria, pp. 175-181

The steepest and the largest waves measured in the North Sea are investigated. They are defined as the down-crossing and up-crossing maximum wave having a joint crest and that crest is the largest in the series. From 180 waves of that group 22 are freak waves. Several statistical relationships between individual wave characteristics and the parameters of the sea state are identified.
