Petrova, P.G. and Guedes Soares, C. (2006), “Statistics of Nonlinear Shallow Water Waves Generated in an Offshore Basin in the Presence of Currents”, Proceedings of the 8th International Conference on Marine Sciences and Technologies (BlackSea´06), 25-27 September, Varna, Bulgaria, pp. 212-218

Statistics describing the nonlinear and hence non-Gaussian properties of the waves generated in an offshore basin are discussed in the paper. The analyzed time series reproduce shallow water irregular wave fields with approximately 3-hour duration given by a JONSWAP type spectrum. Uniform following currents with increasing velocities have been included in six of the model tests. Each mean current velocity corresponds to two sea states characterized by significant wave heights of 3.5m and 7m, respectively. The peak period is set constant for all tests performed. The study aims at demonstrating the effect of a current on the statistics reflecting the non-linear properties of the waves.
