The empirical distributions of wave steepness were analyzed in order to check how the presence of a current influences the distributions. This investigation was based on the analysis of data from a wave basin. The data set was a large number of sea states that were available without current and with following or opposing current. Influence of current on wave asymmetry was also described as well as ratios of increase and decrease of wave steepness and nonlinearity of sea states analyzed. The empirical steepness and asymmetry distributions were fitted by theoretical distributions.
