Non-linear corrosion wastage of deck plates of ballast and cargo holds is analysed based on the model proposed by Guedes Soares and Garbatov, 1999. The model is able to describe an initial period without corrosion due to the presence of a corrosion protection system, a non-linear increase in wastage up to a steady state, transition time and long-term corrosion wastage. The corrosion wastage of deck plates is examined with respect to how the corrosion wastage will vary in time as a result of generalised corrosion and plate repair taking into account that in the presence of general corrosion and the plate thickness decrease at a random rate as a function of time. A survey of two sets corrosion data on deck plates of ballast and cargo holds of tanker provided by ABS is analysed here and the descriptors of the non-linear time dependent model are defined. No effort was made here to establish the realistic corrosion rates for ship plates as a function of different environmental conditions.
