Garbatov, Y., Teixeira, A.P. and Guedes Soares, C. (2004), “Fatigue Reliability Assessment of a Converted FPSO Hull”, Proceedings of the OMAE Specialty Conference on Integrity of Floating Production, Storage & Offloading (FPSO) Systems, ASME, New York, USA, Paper OMAE-FPSO'04-0035

This paper presents a complete stochastic spectral fatigue analysis of a FPSO that has past a 20 years service life as an oil tanker and 25 years as a FPSO converted from that tanker. Oil tanker and FPSO vessels have the same hull, but somehow different structure, which leads to a different distribution of the light weight and the deadweight and as a result of those, different loadings. FPSO, which is a moored structure without speed keeps specific heading angles with respect to the waves. The FPSO operates in a zone with particular sea-state conditions described by a wave spectrum and a scatter diagram and the tanker operated without restriction during her 20 years life. Additionally a formulation is presented for the assessment of the reliability of welded steel joints based on the S-N approach. A FORM/SORM technique is applied to evaluate the reliability of joints against fatigue failure.
