Varela, J.M. and Guedes Soares, C. (2002), “An Object Oriented Architecture of a Fluid Dissemination Virtual Environment in a Ship”, Proceedings of the SIM OUEST 2002, 28-29 November, Nantes, France

The paper presents an object-oriented approach to a training and simulation virtual environment. The purpose of this simulated environment is to increase the quality of information available in the Damage Control Centre of the ship and help the taking of decisions in an emergency situation of flooding of several compartments in the ship. The design of a virtual reality model using the object-oriented approach comprises mainly the attributes, behaviour, interaction, and communication between the objects of the virtual world. The properties and purposes of each object are clearly identified so as to obtain a system with which the user may interact efficiently. The object taxonomy and structure is directly related with purpose of the simulation.
