This paper presents the results of a preliminary study aiming at quantifying the effects of localized imperfections on the ultimate compressive strength of unstiffened plates. The localized imperfections found in damaged plates, as a result of accidents, like the fall of heavy objects, are modeled by different geometrical shapes. The effect on the collapse strength of the plate of the position and length of the localized imperfection is investigated by means of a parametric study. Measures of central tendency of the obtained results are provided, aiming at finding a relationship between the variation of the position of the localized imperfection and the obtained results.
