Wang, Z.G., Zhou, Y., Zhao, XL., Geng, J. and Guedes Soares, C. (2025), Hydrodynamic analysis of a power take-off damped floating breakwater in front of the coast, Innovations in Renewable Energies Offshore, Guedes Soares, C. & Wang S. (Ed.), Taylor and Francis Group, London, UK, 853-860.
This study investigates the influence of coastal reflection on the hydrodynamic performance of a floating breakwater utilized as a wave energy converter. A 3D Boundary Element Method (BEM) model was developed to numerically analyze the wave power extraction performance of a floating breakwater adjacent to a quayside. Compared to scenarios without coast, the presence of the coast significantly modifies the hydrodynamic performance of the floating breakwater. The distance between the floating system and the coastal wall and the incident wave angle are identified as the key factors that affect the performance of the system. Furthermore, the effect of different geometries is illustrated.
