Gaspar, J.F., Santos, F.P., Guedes Soares, C., Mendes, M.J.G.C., Gonçalves, J.P. and Agostinho, D.V. (2025), Calibration of floating offshore wind turbine experimental models using a novel workbench apparatus, Innovations in Renewable Energies Offshore, Guedes Soares, C. & Wang S. (Ed.), Taylor and Francis Group, London, UK, 667-677.
This paper presents a preliminary methodological approach for constructing experimental models of wind turbine floating platforms without umbilical cables and with room for internal adjustment of their centers of gravity and weight. It is based on a model-building bench that provides continuous center of gravity measurements in X, Y and Z directions and weight measurements, while the equipment and ballast are assembled in the hull. This approach aims to reduce the use of massive objects to adjust the center of gravity and weight of the model, which will take up the space needed for the equipment, and also to avoid damage to the hull when suspended by cables to obtain these centers of gravity. This paper shows the bench setup and the preliminary tests for evaluating measurement precision and accuracy, before using it on the wind turbine simulator of the model.
