Abdelghany, G. A. and Guedes Soares, C. (2025), Environmental conditions for deploying offshore floating solar photovoltaic energy installations, Innovations in Renewable Energies Offshore, Guedes Soares, C. & Wang S. (Ed.), Taylor and Francis Group, London, UK, 107-118.

This paper aims to identify the environmental conditions that need to be considered to identify the locations in Europe where it may be profitable deploying offshore floating solar photovoltaic installations. This will be reflected in the design criteria of the identified sites. Firstly, it provides an overview of key aspects on structure types, mooring systems, and environmental that must be addressed in the design of floating photovoltaic structures. Subsequently, the main criteria for site selection that includes solar irradiation, wave and wind conditions are addressed. Finally, some offshore European sites are summarized as possible sites for deploying offshore floating solar photovoltaic energy installations alongside their environmental conditions are identified as sites design basis.
