This paper investigates scale effects in the dynamic response of plates subjected to repeated impacts using finite element analysis. Three geometrically similar models are employed to examine scale effects under the scenarios of neglecting and retaining strain rate sensitivity of the plate material. When strain rate effects are neglected, the dynamic response of the plates under repeated impacts follows geometrically similar scaling, with no scale effects observed. However, when material strain rate sensitivity is considered, scale effects become apparent. The findings emphasise the importance of carefully considering potential scale effects when applying results from small-scale models to predict the dynamic response of real-world, full-scale ship structures subjected to repeated impacts.
