An analytical model on wave diffraction by an elastic floater is developed to study the effect of compressive force on the elastic circular floater composed of two circular rings made of high-density polyethene. The problem of a regular train of finite water depth waves incident onto a floater is formulated in a cylindrical coordinate system. The EulerBernoulli beam theory represents the curved beam equation with curvature and compressive force. Under the matched asymptotic expansion, the solution is obtained through the symmetric motion of the velocity potentials in near and far fields. The existing published numerical model simulations support the present result. Further, the impact of the compressive force on the vertical acceleration of the circular elastic floater is analysed. It is observed that the present formulation and analysis will help improve and enhance the understanding of the hydroelastic response of elastic floaters in further development under various environmental conditions.
