A simulation was made of the wave activity on the Portuguese coast resulting from a storm that occurred during the period of to 21 to 29 December 1989. The information about the atmospheric pressure was obtained from the digitalisation of the surface charts of the North Atlantic corresponding to this period. This was used to calculate the geostrophic wind, which in turn allowed the calculation of the wind speed at an altitude of 10 m using model previously developed. The wave parameters were obtained from a discrete wave spectral model with implicit coupled wave-wave interactions. This model used information on the wind fields in the Nort Atlantic but made prediction for specific points along the Portuguese coast. The predictions were compared with wave measurements conducted in Sines and Faro, showing reasonable agreement.
