Nautical radar and scalar buoy measurements of ocean wave fields were analysed in order to compare the results of the spectral analysis applied to both sensors. The time evolution of different sea-state parameters is shown and also the differences and ratios of the values obtained from radar and buoy data using different analysis methods. Divergences between the sea-state parameters from both sensors were found to result doth from device characteristics and the spectral analysis method. In this paper, it can be seen how the Nyquist frequency of the spectrum has an important role in the comparison of sea state parameters, especially for parameters that depend on spectral moments of order higher than zero.
