The aim of this work is to provide information on the wave conditions along the Azores Islands. This case study seeks to examine the availability of changing sea state conditions in a near future (2030-2054). For this, wind input fields and ice cover data from an RCP8.5 EC-Earth system q downscaled with the Weather Research and Forecasting model. The wave spectral boundary conditions are from a preceding North Atlantic basin WAVEWATCH III wave model run. With those wind fields and boundary conditions, the wavemodel is run to produce the wave information at the Azores Islands used in this analysis. A statistical analysis of the wave information produced from downscaled reanalysis data for present and near future climate simulations is performed. Mean values, standard deviation and 99th percentiles are evaluated for the significant wave height, mean period and 10-m wind fields. Changes between recent past (1990-2014) and near future are evaluated and maps of these empirical statics are presented.
