Ji, J., Zhou, LL., Liu, B. and Guedes Soares, C. (2024), Preliminary study on the hydrodynamics of a bottom-supported aquaculture platform and net cage, Advances in Maritime Technology and Engineering, Guedes Soares, C. & Santos T.A. (Eds.), Taylor and Francis, London, UK, pp. 533-539.

In present paper, the influence of double layer nets and the net solidity on the flow field of a bottom-supported aquaculture platform in current is analyzed and discussed. A numerical method combined the realizable k-å turbulence model and the porous media model is established based on the Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes equation to describe the flow. The hydrodynamic variations of double layer nets with different solidities are evaluated. The results indicate that the reduction of flow velocity of the aquaculture cage with double layer nets is higher than that of the traditional fish cage. The increase of the net solidity leads to a decrease in current velocity, and simultaneously expands the low-speed area downstream of the platform. The vortices caused by the pipes may cause damage to the structure and should not be ignored.
