This study conducts extraction and analysis of AIS data of the traffic flow around the Leixões port. The historical traffic flow distribution of different types of vessels provides a statistical basis for the historical route distribution parameters of Leixões port by primarily utilizing the historical data of maritime traffic flow. According to the ship types of cargo, fishing, tanker and passenger, the historical patterns of traffic flow detected around the port is extracted, and the analysing work of the corresponding route from terminal scenarios and historical traffic patterns is carried out. Furthermore, the sea area in the vicinity of Leixões port under the risk of multiple-type vessel collision is extracted and visualized. This study provides a robust statistical framework that is pivotal for understanding the historical route distribution parameters, as well as the specific references for ship route planning to avoid collision and grounding in the water area of Leixões port.
