The dynamic behavior of mild steel rectangular plates under repeated impacts by rounded hemispherical nose and blunt cylindrical nose, is experimentally investigated. Two sets of repeated impacts are conducted under similar impact energies on a drop weight machine. The fracture and pseudo-shakedown phenomenon are observed under blunt cylindrical impactor and rounded hemispherical impactor, respectively. By comparing the impact force, velocity of the indenter, plate displacement, among others of the two sets of tests, the significant influence of the impactor shape on the dynamic response of rectangular plates subjected to repeated impacts is revealed.
