Elsaka, M. and Guedes Soares, C. (2023), Review of the structural configuration and strength of metallic sandwich panels, Advances in the Analysis and Design of Marine Structures, Ringsberg, J.W. & Guedes Soares C., (Eds.), Taylor & Francis Group, London, UK, pp. 837-848

The paper provides an overview of the state of the art for the metallic sandwich structures used in marine applications, encouraging their wider application, and identifying the most important concerns for future development. It is critical to understand the influence of the geometric arrangement of metallic sandwich panel core and face materials on structuralperformance and applications. As a result, the initial goal is to investigate the various configurations of metallic sandwich panels such as corrugated core, honeycomb core, truss core, and metallic foam core. Then, discuss the various possible failure modes of metallic sandwich structures under bending, buckling and impact loads based on different methods available in literature such as analytical models, numerical techniques, and experimental methods. Finally, summarize the applications of the metallic sandwich panels in marine structures.
