He, X. and Guedes Soares, C. (2023), Experimental investigation of the repeated impact behaviour of rectangular plates, Advances in the Analysis and Design of Marine Structures, Ringsberg, J.W. & Guedes Soares C., (Eds.), Taylor & Francis Group, London, UK, pp. 615-620
The dynamic behavior of rectangular plates under repeated mass impacts is experimentally investigated. The rectangular plates have an aspect ratio (length to width) of 3 and are made of mild steel. Repeated impacts are conducted with a constant impact mass with different impact velocities on a drop weight machine. The fracture and pseudo-shakedown phenomenon are observed under relative high impact velocity and low impact velocity, respectively. By analysing the impact force, velocity of the indenter, plate displacement, among others of two typical plates, one of which suffered failure and the other reached pseudo-shakedown state, the dynamic response of rectangular plates subjected to repeated impacts is discussed.
