Zhang, J.X., An, C., Wei, D.F., Chen B.Q. and Guedes Soares, C. (2023), Structural behaviour of hydrogen flexible pipe under internal pressure, Trends in Renewable Energies Offshore, Guedes Soares, C. (Ed.), Taylor and Francis Group, London, UK, pp. 943-948
This work aims to determine the critical response of hydrogen flexible pipes, which are currently developed in industry to transport high-pressure compressed hydrogen. A reinforced thermoplastic pipe model subjected to internal pressure is proposed. A nonlinear finite element composite pipe model is generated to predict the structural behaviour under internal pressure. The basic assumptions and failure criteria are determined. The stress and strain distributions under the action of the internal pressure for each layer of the hydrogen pipe are obtained. The effects of some design parameters on the structural behaviour of the pipe and the failure modes are investigated, which are expected to provide a reference for engineering applications of renewable energy sources. The conclusions may provide a fast and concise design reference of reinforced thermoplastic pipes, without requiring complicated calculations.
