This work presents a preliminary study of the stress distribution on the tension leg platform of a 10MW floating wind turbine. The 10 MW turbine combined with the platform hull are modelled and analysed by the finite element method. The design conditions considered for analysis are the platform in still water with the turbine producing its thrust at rated speed. Recommendations from Classification Societies are used to design the structure, in particular the stiffener dimensions, span, and spacing. The results of the analysis reveal that the platform’s critical sections are the interaction of the lower columns with the upper columns, the connection of the tower of the DTU 10MW and central column, and the attachments of the tendons, where additional reinforcements should be considered. Furthermore, the leeward locations are more stressed than other sides.
