This paper presents numerical time domain analyses for a conical point-absorber moving around a hinge, interconnected through a rigid arm. The power take-off system is simulated by implementing a rotational damper aligned with the hinge. The numerical model is developed in time domain and predicts the floater’s motion and power performance parameters, e.g. the capture width, and absorbed power. The 1 dof hydrodynamic formulation is applied for the generalized mode. The numerical results are compared with experimental results, and frequency domain results. The paper concludes that non-linearities of motion may frequently be present in point-absorber dynamics. The irregular waves results show almost identical amplitudes of motion in comparison to the results based on response amplitude operators, also comparing well with the experiments, validating the code. In regular waves, the time domain solver presents a more sensitive response around the resonance, depending upon the damping force of the power take-off system.
