Sutulo, S. and Guedes Soares, C. (2022), “Investigation of responses of a modular manoeuvring mathematical model to parameters variations”, Trends in Maritime Technology and Engineering, Guedes Soares, C. & Santos T.A. (Eds.), Taylor and Francis, London, UK, Vol. 1, pp. 451-460.

The paper describes numerical study of a modular empiric ship mathematical model obtained as combination of the Matsunaga model for the hull forces and the modified Soeding rudder model. The study consisted in offline simulation of three standard definitive manoeuvres for an LNG shuttle tanker for the values of all parameters as defined by the empiric method and with each of them variated to the lowest and highest physically possible values. Inspection and analysis of the obtained responses made possible separation of the parameters whose variations do not affect the responses from the parameters significant from this viewpoint. It was also possible to trace a number of clusters of these parameters with qualitatively similar effect of their variations. The obtained results improve understanding of properties of empiric manoeuvring models and can be useful for developing identification and adjustment procedures.
