This study conducts a comprehensive numerical analysis for design and optimization of a conceptual subsea vertical separator for deep-water application. Following functional requirement and available industrial practice, a case study of vertical subsea-separator has been conceptualized. A methodology is suggested in the paper for adequate design. Finite element analyses are conducted using full scale model to identify important design parameters, followed by a parametric study. Comparisons of buckling strength estimated from relevant analytical models is also presented. A scheme of iterative analyses is further conducted to optimize the design based on finite element analysis. The results of this study may be useful for the subsea technology developers.
