In the area of maintenance management of assets, it is normal to be confronted with a wide range of methodologies, and very often it is difficult to select the most indicated method for the purpose you intend to accomplish. The objective of the present paper is to provide a overview of the diverse methodologies, methods, tools and potential processes to be applied, demystifying some pre-conceived ideas, showing the fields where these are most applicable, their characteristics, advantages and disadvantages, and in this way demonstrating to the maintenance and asset management professionals in a clear format, the wide ranging collection of approaches, making the choice easier at the moment of selection or implementation.
