Lotovskyi, E., Teixeira, A.P. and Guedes Soares, C. (2020), “Availability analysis of an offshore oil and gas production system subjected to age-based preventive maintenance by Petri Nets”, Maintenance and Reliability (Eksploatacja i Niezawodnosc), Vol. 22(4), pp. 627–637

The main objective of this paper is to analyse the production availability and maintenance costs of an offshore wind turbine with a horizontal axis configuration by Petri Nets and Monte Carlo Simulation. For this purpose, different features are implemented in the Petri Net model such as: components’ reliability and maintainability characteristics; operation and maintenance logistics, including different types of support vessels, mobilization times and costs; weather window to access the offshore turbine. Moreover, the maintenance policies consist of corrective maintenance replacement and age-based imperfect preventive maintenance, which depends on the components’ age and age reduction of the preventive maintenance action. Thereby, in order to reduce the operation and maintenance costs and to increase the operating income, the optimum parameters of the age-based preventive maintenance are estimated. As case study, a generic offshore wind turbine operating in Viana do Castelo wind farm (Portugal) is adopted. The wind farm is located 18 km off the shore and the total exploration life of the turbine is 25 years.
