Experimental and numerical simulations are used to study the effects of dent damage on the residual strength of stiffened panels under uniaxial compression. Firstly, through the quasi-static lateral loading test, a dent with specified shape and location is imposed on the stiffened panels. Then, in order to analyze the effect of the dent damage on the residual strength of the stiffened panels, uniaxial compression tests of the intact stiffened panels and the stiffened panels with the dent damages are carried out under simply supported boundary conditions. The results show that the residual strength of the stiffened panels is reduced by the dent damage. The nonlinear finite element software ABAQUS is used to simulate the response of the panels, and the residual strength of the stiffened panels is obtained. The experimental results are in agreement with the numerical results, and have verified the numerical simulation. On this basis, further studies on the effects of parameters, such as the depth and area of the dent on the residual strength of the stiffened panels are carried out by means of numerical simulations.
