He, X. and Guedes Soares, C. (2021), “Numerical study on the pseudo-shakedown of beams under repeated impacts”, Ocean Engineering, Vol. 242, 110137.

A finite element model to simulate structural components subjected to repeated impacts is proposed by using a finite element code validated against reported experimental results. Applying the same finite element modelling technique, the dynamic behaviour of beams under repeated drop weight impacts is numerically studied. The dynamic response of the beams is analysed in detail, including the impact force, velocity, displacement, and absorbed energy of the indenter, among other parameters. The numerically obtained results are compared with the experimental results and a discussion is provided. The pseudo-shakedown phenomenon that occurred in the repeated impact tests on beams is validated by numerical simulations. The dynamic behaviour of beams under a pseudo-shakedown state is examined and the required number of repeated impacts to achieve a pseudo-shakedown state is obtained.
