The paper discusses the necessity of developing an integrated concept evaluation and hydrodynamic design system for floaters. The shortcomings of employing spreadsheets or using several specialized software in the design of such structures are explained and an alternative system is presented. The target is to integrate 3D modelling, hydrodynamics, hydrostatics, and mooring analysis. The components of this type of a system are explained here, and their application is discussed using CENTEC-TLP, a free-float capable tension leg platform for wind energy.
