The aim of this study is to investigate the hydrodynamic behavior of a spar-type platform subjected to regular waves through experimental and numerical analyses. In this work, the attention is directed only to the surge, heave, and pitch responses. The experiments were carried out for 1:60 model scale spar-platform with 0.25 m diameter and 1.22 m draft moored with four wired steel cables forming a slack mooring system. The viscous damping matrix is extracted from the pitch and heave free decay tests. This matrix is implemented in the numerical analysis and their influence on the global motions is studied. In addition, a tuned quadratic damping is examined as well. The numerical model of the system is developed using a 3D panel method software based on the potential-flow theory. A nonlinear time domain analysis is conducted, and the cables dynamic effect is explored. From the results, it is observed that the numerical model captures well the resonance responses as well as the combination resonances using the quadratic damping values.
