This paper presents numerical and experimental analyses regarding a conical point-absorber wave energy converter set free to move around a hinge and connected to it through a rigid arm. The tests performed with scale model in wave basin were free decay, regular and irregular wave tests. A numerical model was developed in order to obtain the Response Amplitude Operators and the response spectra of the wave energy converter. A numerical-experimental comparison is performed and the influence of rotational dampers on the motions of the wave energy converter is investigated. Performance parameters such as capture width and absorbed power are also evaluated. For the analyses, the 6 degrees-of-freedom hydrodynamic coefficients of the floating body are converted to a single generalized degree-of-freedom, namely the rotation around the hinge, and the derivation of this transformation is presented in this paper, as it will be an important formulation following research.
