Islam, H., Guedes Soares, C., Kan, J., Liu, J. and Wang, X. (2021), “Investigation of the hydrodynamic properties of an inland container vessel”, Developments in Maritime Technology and Engineering, Guedes Soares, C. & Santos T.A., (Eds.), Taylor and Francis, London, UK, Vol 2, pp. 395-402.

The paper investigates hydrodynamic properties of an inland container vessel using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and compares the results with experimental data. A newly designed container vessel for inland waterways of China is investigated using the open source CFD toolkit, OpenFOAM, and the commercial software StarCCM+. OpenFOAM was mostly used for the investigation, while, StarCCM+ was used to validate some cases. Simulations were performed for different ship drafts and different ship speeds, with heave and pitch free motion. An uncertainty study was performed to verify the simulation outputs. Validation of the results was attempted by comparing some of the results with experimental and StarCCM+ simulation results.
