This paper presents experimental and numerical analyses for ship motions and mooring loads of the Esso Osaka model moored at berth A in Leixões port. The physical model tests are carried out at the Portuguese Civil Engineering Laboratory, the port layout and bathymetry are constructed at 1:80 scale including the future 300 m extension of Leixões’ outer breakwater. In this paper, the first objective is to evaluate the performance of the non-linear spring systems that simulate fenders and mooring lines. The second objective is to evaluate the validity of the existing numerical method to estimate the mooring loads and ship motions inside port. The numerical simulations are carried out in time-domain at constant water depth including non-linear mooring system, quay wall and viscous damping. The experimental time series of the measured wave at berth location are inputted in the numerical model as long-crested waves. Finally, numerical results are compared with statistical results obtained from physical modelling.
