This work concerns the identification of hydrodynamic coefficients of a specific mathematical manoeuvring model using an optimization method with free-running tests. A nonlinear manoeuvring model is proposed, and the hydrodynamic coefficients are computed using empirical equations. In order to search the optimal values, the least-square method combined with the singular value decomposition was used to optimize the values of the hydrodynamic coefficients, where zig-zag manoeuvre tests were used as training data. The validation is carried by comparing the result of the experiments and the model completed with the coefficients identified by the least square method.
