The main objective of this work is to study numerically the propagation of monochromatic waves over a submerged bar. The CFD model used in this study is OpenFOAM and solves Navier-Stokes equations. The free surface elevations time series of the Beji & Battjes (1993) experimental cases are used to calibrate and validate the numerical model. Results demonstrate that the numerical model describes with high accuracy the complex and highly non-linear phenomenon of wave energy exchange from low to high frequency harmonics over the submerged bar. The model can also predict implicitly the wave breaking but, in these cases, cannot reproduce satisfactorily the wave transformation in the back of the bar.
