The Stokes drift in the Agulhas current region is studied by performing high resolution spectral wave model simulations with ocean currents during a 3-month summer period of 2016. The current field comes from the European Space Agency project GLOBCURRENT. The validation of the numerical simulations is performed for the Significant Wave Height using satellite altimetry data from missions Saral-Altika, Jason-2 and Jason-3 showing a good correlation for the significant wave height. The summer mean Stokes drift in the Agulhas current region can reach magnitudes comparable to the local mean currents in the region. A direct correlation was found between the wind sea wave field and the Stokes drift patterns, especially in the southern limit of the domain that is affected by the strong circumpolar winds around Antartic and in the western African margin of Benguela. Currents increase the spatial variability of the Stokes drift field.
