Diaz, H.M. and Guedes Soares, C. (2021), “Failure Mode Identification and Effect Analysis of Offshore Wind Turbines and Substations”, Developments in Renewable Energies Offshore, Guedes Soares, C. (Ed.), Taylor and Francis, London, UK, pp. 444-460

Several studies related to Failure Mode, Effect Analysis (FMEA) of offshore wind components are reviewed and conclusions are collected and discussed to allow the understanding of the main issues. The main components of the offshore wind turbine and offshore wind substation are described in detail. The study shows in detail the FMEA and Maintenance Strategy of each component and the corresponding maintenance alternatives to avoid or prevent the incidences. Moreover, an FMEA case study of an offshore wind turbine main components is performed. This case study based on the literature review data also allows evaluating the risk priority number of components and the weight variations for the same parts based on expert opinions.
