This study presents numerical time domain simulation during installation of floating wind turbine using the float-over method. The numerical model of the coupled system of the spar and the vessel is established. The disturbed wave ?eld near the vessel is investigated and noted to be affected by the diffraction and radiation of the vessel. As a result, from time domain simulations, the critical responses of the vessel motions and gripper forces in the disturbed wave field are compared with those in the undisturbed wave field condition. The results indicate an improvement in the overall responses due to the consideration of the vessel shieling effect. Moreover, sensitivity study is implemented to account for the responses in different wave directions. The results show different behaviors due to different wave directions considering short and long waves. Short-crested waves effects on the wave field and on responses of the coupled system are investigated by implementing the directional wave spreading function in the wave spectrum. The results show that the effects of the wave spreading are substantial in both incident and disturbed waves.
