Guedes Soares, C. and Guedes da Silva, A. (1991), “Reliability of Unstiffened Plate Elements under In-Plane Combined Loading”, Proceedings of the Offshore Mechanics and Artic Engineering Conference, ASME, Stavanger, Vol. 2, pp. 265-276

Plate elements under combined in-plane loading are studied both in isolation and integrated in a large panel. The reliability of plate elements under uniaxial load is assessed for various strength formulations using a first order second moment reliability method. It is considered that these plates could be in the deck of a ship which determines the probabilistic properties of the loading. Plates under biaxial loading are also studied for combinations of longitudinal and transverse stresses in the range that is typical for ship structures. Examples od panels made with a different number of plate elements are also studied and the reliability of the system is assessed.
