The interest on slamming is often being raised from the view point of ship structural safety. Slamming will affect the strength of both local and global structures. Model tests are still the most reliable way to study slamming loads. They are always adopted to verify and validate results of analytical and numerical solutions. The state of art of model tests techniques for local slamming on ships is reviewed here. Three main sections are presented, water entry of rigid bodies into calm water, model tests in waves, and hydroelasticity of local slamming. The challenges for future work are described.
