This paper presents an investigation on the hull resistance of a type of a flat autonomous underwater vehicle. The hull resistance coefficient of the flat autonomous underwater vehicle has been modelled using the response surface methodology. Two different order polynomials with and without interaction terms are adopted as response surface to describe the model output. The response surface is defined using multiple linear regression based on a sample of 405 model outputs obtained through CFD simulation. The five parameters, i.e., bow area length, middle area length, stern area length, moulded breadth and sailing speed have been varied to investigate their effect on the output response. Analysis of variance has been applied to identify the significance of the developed model. The test results confirm the validity and adequacy of the developed RSM model.
